Fabio Caipirinha
Born in Brazil, I grew up between Japan, Mexico, Singapore, Malaysia and France before studying conservation and museum studies in Britain.
I later spent much of the next two decades in international business, organizational change, coaching and innovation, working across Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, North America, Central America and South America.
I research and teach leadership and organisational behaviour in Tokyo, and study philosophy at the Open University.
It does not fit together neatly. But I keep returning to a small set of questions.
What changes when an idea moves between languages? What happens when a global strategy reaches a local office? What should a leader decide rather than delegate? What remains ours when a machine can produce a fluent answer?
Some words make the problem visible. Japanese has mono no aware. Portuguese has saudade. English has no exact one-word equivalent for either. You can explain them, but explanation is not the same thing as carrying the word across intact.
That tension — between what moves and what resists movement — appears throughout the essays here.
