Ulysses is a novel by Irish writer James Joyce.
A legendary story to come out of the country of great stories, Ireland.
Originally serialised in part in the American magazine from March 1918 to December 1920, and then published in its complete form on 2 February 1922 by the Shakespeare and Company, also a legendary bookshop in Paris.
It is considered one of the most important works of modernist literature in the first half of the 20th century.
Because of the length of the book, it is a novel also known as an unfinishable book to read.
So, what is my “Tokyo Ulysses Project (TUP)”?
Joyce’s “Ulysses” tells a story of events taken place on a single day.
The book also describes the city of Dublin so clearly that Joyce himself said, “Even if Dublin were to fall, Ulysses would be there to recreate it.”
The book remains to be a great source of inspiration for anyone who aspire to be a writer or simply interested in city of Dublin.
And that is what I aim to do with this project TUP.
Even if Tokyo were to fall one day, TUP would be there to recreate it.
So I would cut out a scenery by taking pictures and hear stories from local people and record them on this site and on my Instagram.
They are not all that fancy and picturesque, but they are there and they are real at this moment.
I hope you’d enjoy this Tokyo journey with me.
One day people would find this project and think what an interesting city Tokyo must have been in the first half of 21st century.
Welcome to TOKYO!
